So, I can never remember the name for those Russian Nesting Dolls, so I looked it up and have decided to blog about it. The name is "Matryoshka". Apparently some think it is called this because the name is similar to several popular female names around the time these dolls originated. Scholars say the Latin root of the word is "mater", which means "mother", and that the name is associated with the image of a portly figured peasant woman with a large family. I don't know why it seems important to me to remember the real name of the silly doll, it just is. Kind of like how I can always remember the little plastic piece at the end of a shoelace is called an "aglet". I just like that I know. The end. :)
